The Integrity Testimony PDF Print E-mail

At the heart of Quaker faith is the belief that there is something of God — the seed of God — in all people.

With that in mind, it is easy to see the path laid out before us, and it is a path that all of the Quaker testimonies point toward. Peace, Simplicity, Equality, Integrity. The testimonies are not creeds, but rather descriptions of committed actions.

This is another in the series that reviews these principles.

INTEGRITY

Basics of this testimony:

  • Living a life that is true to one’s faith, one’s self and others, awareness vs. impulsivity, authenticity in consistent expression.
  • Honesty and fairness in dealings with others and self
  • Integrity as a matter of own conscience/examined action
  • Apply “ultimate truth” to each situation
  • Speak truth to power
Examples of Integrity might include:
  • Living as an example instead of evangelizing.
  • Standing up for out beliefs and those of others.
  • Practicing fairness in the local and global community.
  • Promoting fair exchange of goods, services, wages, financial arrangements.
  • Endeavoring to be respectful of others’ beliefs, concerns and leadings – not owning but respecting, respecting different sources of revelation.
  • Practicing discernment in decisions, responsibilities and follow-through.
  • Giving credit where credit is due.
  • Say what you mean, and mean what you say.

How it applies in Meeting:

  • No tithing
  • No ritual
  • No evangelism
  • Use of “Sense of the Meeting”
